According to an Indian Government press release the Indian Minister of State for Commerce is in the process of identifying products for geographical indication protection to be registered with Geographical Indications (GI) Registry, Chennai. Amongst those being discussed a

*Alphonso mangoes
*Monsooned Malabar coffee
*Nilgiris & Assam teas
*Basmati rice (though talks are ongoing with Pakistan)
*21 handicraft items
