Ghana signs up for WIPO Copyright Treaty ...

The IPKat notes that, on 18 August, the Republic of Ghana deposited its instrument of ratification of the 1996 WIPO Copyright Treaty with WIPO. That Treaty enters into force in Ghana on 18 November 2006.

... while Belgium opts for the PPT

The IPKat has also spotted that Kingdom of Belgium has deposited its instrument of ratification of the 1996 WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty, subject to the following declaration:
"In accordance with Article 3(3) of the WIPO Performances and Phonograms Treaty (WPPT), the Kingdom of Belgium declares that it avails itself of the faculty provided in Article 5(3) of the International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations (Rome Convention 1961) in the sense that it will not apply the criterion of publication as a point of attachment".
At Belgium's request, that declaration is to be considered as having accompanied its instrument of ratification of the WPPT and entered into force last week, on 30 August.
