Some timely reminders

Gowers Review courses

Right: who wins, who loses on the Great Gowers IP Merrygoround?

A reminder: there are still some places available for the three remaining review seminars on the Gowers Review of Intellectual Property Law, run by IPKat co-blogmeister Jeremy. These briefing sessions cover the following issues:
* What was the Gowers Review asked to do?

* What are its main conclusions?

* What's in it for IP owners?

* What's in it for commercial users of the IP of others?

* What's in it for the consumer?

* What do its recommendations mean for the IP professions?

* Where, if anywhere, do we go from here?
These sessions will be held at the Chamber of Shipping (Carthusian Street, London, just round the corner from Barbican tube station), from 1.30pm till 5.30pm on Mondays 8, 22 and 29 January 2007. Registration costs just £80. If you're interested in attending, email Jeremy here and let him know.

CLT 2007 IP Conference

This year's CLT Intellectual Property Law Conference runs on Thursday 25 January 2007 at The Hatton Conference Centre, London. The programme, which the IPKat helped create, is packed with exciting features including
* the impact of European and international developments on local IP practice in the UK;

* the collision of IP rights and their mortal enemy, competition rules;

* the intended and unintended consequences of the current protection of unregistered rights;

* an investigation of whatever happened to traditional copyright.
Speakers include Gwilym Harbottle (Hogarth Chambers), Paul Joseph (Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer), Martin Cook (Slaughter and May), Ruth Annand (Taylor Wessing) and Christopher Stothers (Milbank).

There's also just one week to the closing date for the conference competition (8 January 2007). The challenge: to design a new logo for WIPO (the World Intellectual Property Organization). The prize: free registration for the conference (the normal price is £495 plus VAT). Send your (winning?) entries here to avoid disappointment.
