New SIs tinker with UK IP law
Thanks go to John Lambert's nipc IP/it update blog for pointing out a few new SIs relating to the outer fringes of UK copyright, design and patent law:
The Copyright and Performances (Application to Other Countries) Order 2007, SI 2007 No. 273 extends protection for UK copyright to Samoa, the SI replacing the previous Order of SI 2006 No. 316. John has further comments regarding this on his blog.
The Patents (Convention Countries) Order 2007, SI 2007 No. 276, updates the list of countries to which Section 90 of the Patents Act applies.
Similarly, the Designs (Convention Countries) Order 2007, SI 2007 No. 277, updates the equivalent country list under Section 13 of the Registered Designs Act.
We can all now breathe a sigh of relief that it will be possible in future to claim priority from Yemeni patent and design applications.
