The Sir Hugh Laddie Chair

The IPKat is delighted to learn that his learned friend Sir Robin Jacob, the senior British intellectual property appeal judge and the scourge of the European Court of Justice, is first to take the position of Sir Hugh Laddie Professor of IP Law in the Institute of Brand and Innovation Law (IBIL), University College London. In this new role, the UCL IBIL website says,
"Sir Robin will progress the legacy and outstanding vision of Sir Hugh Laddie, a former UCL professor and perhaps the leading judge and academic in the field of Intellectual Property (IP) Law.
He adds:
“My intention is to build on what Hugh started: to make UCL one of the key world centres for practical IP law research and teaching. I hope to encourage much collaboration between IBIL and other key centres both in the UK and abroad. There so much to be done. I can hardly wait to start.”
According to the information available, Sir Robin will take-up his post with UCL Laws in 2011. He hopes to continue sitting part-time in the Court of Appeal on IP cases [Merpel says, that's a good idea, knowing what academic salaries are like].

The IPKat wishes Sir Robin the best of luck in his new role. Merpel wishes his students luck, too!
