The Importance of SSL and FireSheep

Aloha!! I am here today to to make you aware of a powerful new FireFox app, called Firesheep. Firesheep allows for cookie-jacking of insecure applications over a wi-fi network. It's an eye-opening and potentially dangerous little extension, that really proves a point. I'm not going to get much into the application, other than noting it's crazy fun to play with. My focal point, is the trust we invest in these flawed internet applications we use everyday (Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, ext...). Wireless endpoints are easily taken advantage of, and unless the application uses solid encryption from end to end, the wi-fi user is far more exposed than they are aware. My advice, don't use applications that require a great deal of trust over open/wireless networks. If you do want to use these insecure applications, it would be best to access them from a secure home network, tethered connection, or even mi-fi connection. Just a friendly heads up!!
