A million robot to work for Foxconn soon

Foxconn was hit hard by a string of well-publicised workers' suicides in China last year. It now plans to replace factory workers with more than 1 million robots in three years to cut rising labour costs and improve efficiency, according industry report.

Terry Gou, Founder & Chairman, Foxconn, said, "the company will deploy robots to do simple and routine work such as spraying, welding and assembling, which are now mainly conducted by workers."

"The company has set up an automation robotics division and currently has 10,000 robots. The number will be increased to 300,000 next year and 1 million in three years", Gou added.

If experts are anything to go by, robots could handle about 50 per cent of the production process of electronic devices in the future.
