What is Autoblogging? The Simple Things Everyone Should Know
What is autoblogging? Well, one way to describe it is "blogging on steroids"!
To start with, a blog is just another word for a personal website, as opposed to a commercial or business oriented site. Blogs can be profitable, of course, but their main focus is on providing a good reader experience.
The ones that make money do so precisely because they are so good at providing the optimum reader experience. Keep that in mind as you read on.
1. Two essential things
Let's think more deeply about reader experience, and how that relates to making money with a blog. You've got to have two goals in mind.
Number one, you have to keep the reader happy.
Number two, you have to keep the search engines happy, as well.
As it happens, good bloggers, and good blogs, manage to do both. You see, readers want regularly updated content so as to keep them coming back on a regular basis. And... the search engines unde rstand this!
So, search engines favor blogs that are updated on frequent basis, and let the rest drop away.
2. And here is where it gets interesting...
Updating your blogs can be a chore if you lack time, or have too many of them. Autoblog plugins help you by finding good, relevant content, and posting it to your blog automatically, or queuing it for your inspection prior to posting.
3. How does it work?
An autoblog plugin does one main job, even though it may have all sorts of extras built it.
You give it an RSS feed (or as many feeds as you like) which you have identified as relevant to your niche. The software periodically checks to see if the feed has been updated. If it has been, it extracts the content and posts it or queues it as I have described.
The software installs onto your Wordpress theme in most cases. There are some that work with both WP and Blogger, and one or two which work with Joomla. it will update for you as often as you like, be that daily, several times a day, weekly, or whatever suits you and yo ur niche.
4. What never to do...
There is one issue with autoblogging software which should be flagged straight away, and that is the encouragement it gives to the lazy.
Blogs with nothing but auto posted content tend to be poor in quality, have too many ads, and are really no more than a platform for making a few dollars a day. There are people who do this for a living, building hundreds of these blogs, thereby making up in numbers what they have sacrificed in quality.
You may find that if you go down this route, Google may penalize you for looking like a "content farm"; i.e. having too much duplicate content, too many ads, and not enough original material.
5. Best use...
So, the best use for autoblogging plugins is an adjunct to your existing marketing tools. If you are too busy to update your blog by hand, or are on a budget and can't commission new material, don't be afraid to automate.
But... d on't overuse this software, either. Overuse leads to bad blogs, as described. Proper use leads to an enriched reader experience that folks will come back to again and again-- and so will the search engines!
