Farewell, Allan Zelnick

It is with sadness that the IPKat has learned that Allan Zelnick, a retired partner at the well-known New York City trade mark and copyright law practice Fross Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, passed away on Monday, 22 April.  Allan was a leading figure of his generation in U.S. trade mark practice. He was especially instrumental in developing the U.S. litigation practice at the firm, a practice that enjoys an august reputation worldwide. Allan represented such companies as Estée Lauder, E. & J. Gallo, Alexander's department stores, American Express, DC Comics, Warner Brothers, PepsiCo and Lego. In the words of his colleagues at the firm, Allan had
"...  a special talent for helping young lawyers realize their potential, and all of us benefited from his exceptional intelligence, experience, and character, as well as his buoyant personality. Allan was committed to excellence, but also to having fun, and time with Allan was always enjoyable. He was a gentle man who attended the opera, but also had season tickets to the New York Rangers hockey games."
Allan was a graduate of the Harvard Law School and was a renowned writer on trade mark matters as well as being a leading trade mark practitioner. He served as the Editor in Chief of The Trademark Reporter, the flagship journal of the International Trademark Association (INTA), and he was a long-time member of the Board of Editors and the Advisory Board.
