“Make in India” initiative by Prime Minister Narendra Modi is a concrete step in the right direction, according to MAIT. It was the need of the hour and long overdue. MAIT welcomes the speed at which the current government has moved after the first announcement was made by the Prime Minister on August 15. | MAIT also welcomes the Prime Minister’s focus on smoother centre-state relations with regard to ease-of-doing business. This will also create a positive environment and result in states and centre working together to attract investment in the manufacturing sector. The focus on building trust factor is a welcome sign of the way the present government is creating positive environment to attract investors to consider manufacturing in India. The emphasis on removing on ground hurdles is also an important move which would help build confidence amongst the investors. The need for building strong relations between the government and the businesses are also welcomed. This would go a long way in creating a healthy business environment. The new government’s infrastructure development push across sectors would definitely provide impetus to manufacturing. We also welcome the focus on making manufacturing export oriented. The emphasis on job creation for the poor as a result of setting up of manufacturing in the country is also laudable. MAIT also welcomes the commitment of the government towards providing defined timelines for all clearances, apart from providing exemptions from rules and regulations related to labour, environment. All these steps would go a long way in clearing some of the hurdles which existed before. As a result of the “Make in India” initiative, all these measures are expected to provide a major boost to the already existing SMEs which can provide components and subsystem to the large manufacturers which, in turn, would create the much-needed electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
