Ubuntu MATE: default will only have a panel at the bottom of the desktop
The developer of Ubuntu MATE decided to revisit the desktop experience to make it more familiar to users coming from Microsoft Windows.
Ubuntu MATE
Among the many innovations planned for Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn are also derived with the new MATE desktop environment. Given the stability and above all the success that finding MATE, Canonical developers have decided to release a derivative capable of offering users the chance to regain the user experience of Gnome 2 even in the new release of the Linux distribution known to the world. Ubuntu MATE will include the current stable version 1.8.1 of MATE Desktop Environment with some customizations that apply to both the default theme, the slider installation, animation during the boot etc.. Wimpress Martin, one of the leading developers of Ubuntu MATE, recently announced on Google Plus some changes to improve the user experience by new user.
The stable version of Ubuntu MATE will not have the "classic" just one but two panels at the bottom of the desktop as we can see from removing even the applet menu by default with the three links "Applications, Places and System" for include the Ubuntu menu accessible from the icon located on the left side of the panel.
This new "reinterpretation" of Ubuntu MATE allow new users coming from Windows to find an operating system experience very similar to the system owner of Microsoft. Logically we can at a later time to get back the two panels as by default in MATE / Gnome 2 as in the image below.
Do you think it's better this provision with a single panel or the default with the "classic" two panels?
