Void Linux - The installer
Void Linux - The installer
We analyze the installer Void Linux Rolling Release distribution very similar to Arch Linux.
void Linux
In these days we will release some guides dedicated to Void Linux distribution Rolling Release that allows us to create our own free operating system starting from the Kernel integrating the package manager XBPS, the boot manager RunIt (thanks CaosX) DKMS and to simplify the management Linux Kernel modules of third parties. The idea of the project Void Linux is the ability to create a distribution optimized for our pc, stable and always up to date. Void is a Linux distribution to be recommended especially to experienced user (or the user who wants to learn how to use the best Linux) because very often we have to work from the command line since the installation, the various configurations and so on.
We can install Linux Void is in new pc and dated, the installer is also released for Raspberry Pi, Cubieboard2 and ODROID U2 / U3.
The installer Void Linux allows us to install the base system in our pc (Kernel, package manager etc.), once installed the base system we will have to install the desktop environment, open or proprietary drivers for graphics cards or other devices, audio system, server graph, favorite apps, display manager, the connection manager etc..
Once you have downloaded the ISO installer of Linux Void, just burn it to a CD / DVD, or save it in a pendrive with DD from the command line if you use Windows can use Win32 Disk Imager.
Once you start the installer Void Linux we have to start the installation tool by typing
sudo void-installerAs we can see from the installer is quite simple to use my advice is to prepare our already partitioned hard disk or ssd since Void uses Linux as Parted partition manager (in my opinion not very simple such as cfdisk ).
I also remember that we will have at a later time to download several packages, to do this we will have to use an Ethernet connection, before proceeding with the installation so make sure you have an active connection via LAN.
If you do not have an Ethernet connection can use a PC with Linux (or Windows using a live distro with eg Ubuntu) connected to the internet via wireless or mobile internet by sharing it via the LAN using this document.
In the next guide we will see how to install, desktop environment, etc. driver in the system based on Linux Void.
