Koha Live DVD 3.16 released, A Xubuntu-based Linux operating system

Koha Live DVD is a freely distributed operating system based on the popular Xubuntu Linux distribution and built around the Koha open source ILS (Integrated Library System). It uses a classic GNOME 2 session as its default and only desktop environment.

Traditional desktop environment powered by GNOME

As mentioned, the default and only desktop environment of Koha Live DVD is GNOME 2, providing users with a traditional graphical desktop session that uses a two-panel layout. While you can easily interact with running programs from the bottom panel, it is possible to quickly launch applications from the top panel.

A standard suite of open source applications

There's nothing spectacular on the application front, as the distribution comes with a standard suite of open source apps and desktop tools, among which we can mention Mozilla Firefox, LibreOffice, Gwibber, Transmission, Empathy, Remmina, Brasero, Totem, Rhythmbox, Orca, BleachBit, Shotwell, Simple Scan, and Leafpad.

Extent of Koha customisation

Customisation of Koha in certain extent is needed in Live DVD. It can give a friendly interface for Koha users. Post installation steps should complete in Live DVD. Following are the details of customisations:
  1. Some sample reports from Koha SQL Report Library
  2. On and off certain system preferences
  3. Addition of ACQ cataloguing framework
  4. Customisation of BKS Framework in cataloguing. Removal of unwanted fields and retaining commonly used MARC tags. See the screenshot. http://picpaste.com/customised-cataloguing-fields-pc9fiUbu.png
