Facebook Lite for low end Android devices launched
Facebook has rolled out 'Lite' app for Android smartphones. The app which uses less data connection is aimed at users living in emerging markets, as per a report from TechCrunch. Facebook Lite is targeted at people with poor internet service or who are limited to 2G networks. Weighing about 252KB, the app is currently available in just eight countries in Africa and Asia: Bangladesh, Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. It also works on devices running Android 2.2. The Facebook Lite app is based on the Snaptu software that Facebook uses on feature phones, but this one comprises of Android-specific features like push notifications and camera uploads. In addition, the app even includes Facebook Messenger that is not present in Facebook's main app. The move from the company is targeted towards garnering more users from emerging markets. Facebook already has launched Internet.org app to give users in Ghana, Colombia, Kenya, Tanzania and Zambia free access to Web content and Facebook. Play Link - Facebook Lite
