How to Retrieve Clipboard History in Windows-5 best alternative of clipboard manager

Retrieve clipboard history using alternative clipboard ManagersEver copied a code snippet or text from the web and forgot to paste it before you copied something else? So, wondering to know how to retrieve clipboard history?

what is clipboard manager according to Wikipedia:

A clipboard manager is a computer program that adds functionality to an operating system's clipboard. Many clipboards provide only one buffer, overwritten by each new "copy" operation. The main task of a clipboard manager is to store data copied to the clipboard in a way that permits richer use of the data.

Clipboard managers enhance the basic functions of cut, copy, and paste operations with one or more of the following features:
  • multiple buffers and the ability to merge, split, and edit their contents
  • selecting which buffer "cut" or "copy" operations should store data in
  • selecting which buffer(s) "paste" operations should take data from
  • handling formatted text, tabular data, data objects, media content, and URLs
  • saving copied data to long term storage
  • indexing or tagging of clipped data
  • searching of saved data
  • Sharing clipboard contents remotely is sometimes done with pastebins

Well, all of us will have an experience of something like this where we want to desperately retrieve those information that was once copied to the clipboard. But as we know  Windows os  clipboard will only remember the last item that was copied onto it, it would seem impossible to recover the information that was copied earlier or before 1 month old history. so due to this problem I am coming with this most importent alternatives of default clipboard manager for windows users.

In this post you will find a few such alternative clipboard managers for Windows using which it would be possible to save and retrieve every piece of information that was copied  to the clipboard. Here’s a quick list starting with :

#1-Clipdiary

This tool is a powerful clipboard manager which will store every piece of information that was copied to the clipboard including text, images or any other file. Clipdiary automatically loads upon Windows startup and maintains a database to store the history of all copied items.

This makes it possible to retrieve the information that was once copied to the clipboard, be it the last hour or the last week. Clipdiary is a shareware tool which comes with a 30 day fully functional evaluation period.

2-ClipX (Windows, Freeware)

By itself ClipX is a great clipboard manager capable of going portable with a simple command line argument. You can assign hotkeys to primary and secondary pastes off your clipboard log, but you can't assign a hotkey to a specific phrase. ClipX supports both text and image cutting and pasting. There are around a half dozen plugins for ClipX that provide additional functionality like clipboard search, a color picker that automatically dumps the color values into your clipboard, and a plugin that adds sticky clipboard entries you want to keep close at hand.

3-CLCL (Windows, Freeware)

If you've looked over some of the other clipboard managers in today's Hive Five and found them a bit overpowered for your needs, take a look at CLCL. It's an excellent compromise between the inadequate default clipboard and the advanced every-bell-and-whistle clipboard managers. CLCL allows you to access your clipboard history with a simple press of ALT+C or from the icon in the system tray. Frequently used clippings can be saved to the Templates category, and you can customize the paste hotkey based on the program you're using to avoid conflicts and set specify windows to ignore. Beyond that CLCL doesn't have a whole lot more functionality, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It stores the clippings you want, retrieves them with a simple keystroke-summoned menu, and is light on your system resources

#4-ClipMagic

ClipMagic is similar to Clipdiary but includes a few extra features that could seem handy for advanced users. The following are some of the extra features of ClipMagic that are not present in Clipdiary:

Categorize/organize your clips. You can also create filters/rules for your incoming clips
You can store/categorize your ideas to research fast
Assign often used text like email signatures to hotkeys

#5- Ditto

Ditto is a powerful alternative to the default Windows clipboard manager which is an open source tool. It keeps track of all the copied items such as text, images and other files so that you can retrieve them whenever necessary. The following are some of the highlights of Ditto:

  •     Assign hotkeys to frequently used clippings
  • Search and organize the clippings based on task or project
  •  Supports unicode so that you can copy foreign and non-standard characters without any issues
  • Get a preview of all the copied items including thumbnails of images just by pressing the assigned hotkey
  • Ditto comes as a freeware so that you can enjoy all of its features free of cost
  • Even though Ditto is a freeware, it is still comparable to the two shareware tools discussed earlier. So in my opinion Ditto is always the first choice. You may still download and try all the three and keep the one that you like!
