IESA supports Government of India’s Digital India Campaign
The trade body representing the Indian Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) industry, IESA (India Electronics and Semiconductor Association) has extended full support to the Government of India towards the launch of “Digital India” campaign. The trade and industry body has applauded Hon’ble Minister of Communications & Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad’s agenda to promote electronics manufacturing in a big way and invitation to entrepreneurs to “Make in India”.
“We appreciate the Government of India’s Digital India programme and its huge thrust on the Electronics Development Fund which will give impetus towards inclusive growth in the areas of electronic services, products, manufacturing and job opportunities and call to reduce dependence on imports. The defined focus on ‘Design in India’ is well aligned to IESA’s ‘Innovation Led Design and Design Led Manufacturing’ vision to achieve India’s manufacturing reality. The three-point agenda around Electronics Development Fund (EDF), Centre of Excellence for IoT and National Centre for Flexible Electronics (NCFlexE), are key for the ESDM sector,” said M. N. Vidyashankar, President, IESA.

The Electronics Development Fund will provide greater incentivization to R&D and incubation centres to spur the local IP development and product creation which constitutes almost 50% value addition for electronic goods. Domestic production of electronics has been a major focus for the present government and the EDF is a step to the need to reduce India’s electronics import bill.
