Introducing Trend Micro Deep Security 9.6

Cloud security is still a top priority for many businesses, and decision-makers and network administrators alike are continually looking for ways to enhance their protections of content stored in Web-based environments.

As many of you already know, Trend Micro Deep Security delivers a comprehensive security platform optimized for the virtual and cloud environments. Deep Security 9.6 was recently launched and builds upon a rich history of being the only true single security platform with advanced threat protection capabilities built to work seamlessly with key virtualization and cloud providers including VMware, AWS and Microsoft Azure.

With Deep Security 9.6, organizations will continue to benefit from advanced threat protection for their data center and cloud workloads. Trend Micro’s Cloud and Data Center security solution delivers:

  • Comprehensive security capabilities that include anti-malware with web reputation, host based firewall, intrusion detection and prevention (IDS/IPS), integrity monitoring, and log inspection.
  • Vulnerability shielding with virtual patching to protect applications and servers against vulnerabilities like Shellshock and Heartbleed.
  • Deployment flexibility with on-premise software or as a service including full multi-tenant capabilities for easy service operation.
  • Reduced cost and complexity through tight integration with VMware, AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Reduced operational impacts with a single platform for the management of security controls and policies across multiple environments: physical, virtual, and cloud.
  • Easy administration with tight integrations to management consoles from Trend Micro, VMware, IBM, HP, Splunk and enterprise directories.
  • Compliance with major regulatory requirements for PCIDSS 3.0, HIPAA, NIST, SAS70, and many others.

Deep Security can help you scale your virtualization and cloud environments securely without compromising performance and efficiency. You can avoid the operational nightmare of having to manage multiple point security solutions, which inevitably leads to disjointed policies and a huge management overhead.

Let’s look at a closer look at some of these new capabilities…

Integration with VMware vSphere 6

As many of you know, in March 2015, VMware released vSphere 6, which included more than 650 new features.

Trend Micro is introducing integration with VMware vSphere 6 which will ensure VMware customers continue to have secure environments protected by the advanced security controls delivered by Deep Security. Deep Security 9.6 will provide multiple flexible options for deployment with vSphere 6, which address unique customer needs and environments. Customers can choose the right deployment option for their VMware environment.

  • For those customers who have invested in VMware NSX or are looking to move there in the future, they have the full range of agentless security controls including intrusion prevention, anti-malware, integrity monitoring and firewall.
  • For non-NSX customers, who are not currently planning to move to VMware NSX and their primary security requirement is only anti-malware. They will also have an agentless anti-malware option on VMware vSphere 6.
  • For non-NSX customers who are not currently planning to move to VMware NSX but require more than anti-malware, they will have the option to leverage a new “Combined” mode of security controls on vSphere 6. This new option will enable organizations to deploy agentless anti-malware and integrity monitoring in combination with agent based intrusion preventions services, firewall and log inspection.

The bottom line is customers will be able to secure their vSphere 6 environments with the comprehensive security they have come to expect from Trend Micro Deep Security.

New Deep Security for SAP Module

Trend Micro Deep Security now has a module that will allow customers with SAP deployments to perform antivirus scanning on content being uploaded to SAP repositories and databases. Deep Security 9.6 has integrated this SAP functionality into the Deep Security Agent. Deep Security now works seamlessly with the SAP Virus Scan (VSI) interface to scan content for applications such as NetWeaver, HANA and Fiori. The SAP module has been fully incorporated in to Deep Security 9.6 as part of the RedHat Enterprise Linux and SuSE Enterprise Linux builds and can now be licensed directly through Deep Security Manager.

The Deep Security for SAP module enables organizations to monitor traffic as it goes through SAP systems using the native SAP VSI. As documents are put into key SAP systems, Deep Security performs anti-malware scans and reviews the information to identify potential threats. This advanced detection capability provides an added layer of protection above standard anti-virus capabilities.

New SIEM Integration with IBM QRadar

Last year with Deep Security 9.5, Trend Micro introduced integration with a leading SIEM solution HP ArcSight. Now, Deep Security 9.6 is adding support for IBM QRadar using the Log Event Extended Format (LEEF 2.0).  The addition of IBM QRadar support allows Deep Security to continue to expand its ecosystem of SIEM providers. This integration will enable organizations that have invested in IBM QRadar to monitor operational and system status and see virtual machine security status from a single view. This allows the operations team to correlate system activity with security activity and address problems in their data center holistically.

Expansion of Supported Platforms

In addition, Deep Security 9.6 will provide will offer support for a range of new platforms and capabilities.

New Agent Platform Support

  • Debian 6 & 7
  • Windows 2012 Server Core
  • Cloud Linux 7
  • Oracle Linux 7SuSE Enterprise Linux 12

Deep Security Manager Extended Support

  • Redhat Enterprise Linux 7
  • Oracle 12C Database

New Extended Active Directory support

  • New users created in Active Directory can now log in to Deep Security Manager before the Active Directory Synch task has been run.

Security Module Usage Report Enhancement

  • The “Security Module Usage” report which informs you how many machines are protected and with what controls now has columns for the “Computer Group” and the “Instance Size” (for AWS workloads).

These new platforms will provide customers with added flexibility to deploy Deep Security to protect their environments as they continue to evolve. While the active directory and reporting enhancements will ensure better usability and overall experience with Deep Security.
