Trend Micro Continues Stellar Test Results Performance
In the world of cybersecurity, many individuals and organizations rely on 3rd party testing as a gauge of how a vendor can protect them from cyber threats. Trend Micro has consistently worked with many of the most respected testing labs over the years to ensure our customers see how we stack up against our peers in the industry. As the threat landscape has shifted, so too have our needs to broaden our support for different tests.
Many threats today start with an email message (spam, phishing, or spearphishing) trying to lure the victim into clicking on an embedded link or opening a weaponized attachment. As such, we’ve been working with Opus One on a messaging security test that allows us to see how we’re doing against our top peers like Cisco, Microsoft, Proofpoint, and others.
The Trend Micro InterScan Messaging security solution has outperformed our competitors again in the most recent Q2’15 test.
Mobile threats have exploded over the past several years, where we now have identified more than 7 million malicious and high-risk Android apps in our Mobile App Reputation database. We’re seeing more threat actors using mobile apps in their attacks as well. AV-Test and PC Security Labs have been running Android mobile security tests over the past few years which Trend Micro Mobile Security for Android is tested against our peers. Most people are concerned about their PCs security and which vendor can protect them well. The main challenge with endpoint security today is many people still think of it as anti-virus or anti-malware. This misconception causes a lot of people to think they are protected from most threats today if they simply obtain an anti-malware solution. Threats today are multi-vector, meaning they are comprised of different types of threats. Typically we see email, web, and files associated with each attack on an individual or an organization. This means that to protect you from a new threat, the security solution has to employ multiple layers of protection to truly and effectively protect you. We have even come up with different names for these vectors, namely the exposure layer (email & web) and infection layer (file).
AV-Test, AV-Comparatives, and NSS Labs are testing organizations who we’ve been working with over the years to improve their “real-world” tests to ensure security solutions can utilize multiple layers of defense in detecting their samples. Samples today are usually web downloads, email attachments, or simply a set of malicious files tested against the security products. In the 1H’15, we’ve participated in numerous tests from both AV-Test and AV-Comparatives with both our commercial endpoint solution and consumer endpoint solution. Both have performed extremely well in their tests as the below charts show.
As you can see, Trend Micro regularly tests our security solutions against many different types of threats which allow us to identify weaknesses in our solutions over time by analyzing any missed samples. We also pack in many layers of defense, including some new advanced threat defenses to ensure our customers are protected against today’s sophisticated, fast evolving threat actors.
