Microsoft Acquires Israeli Cyber Security Firm

Microsoft Corp announced today the acquisition of Secure Islands, an Israeli cyber security firm which specializes in advanced information protection solution. The acquisition is believed to be around $77.5 million according to various sources.



This is the third cyber security firm the Microsoft has acquired in recent time another coincidence is all three firms are based in Israel. The Secure Island was established in 2006 and in recent times the company enjoyed major success in security sector after inventing technology that allows its clients to track their organizations documents throughout the web.

Microsoft Corp. announced the main motive behind the acquisition of this cyber security firm is to enable its customers (mostly organizations) data security regardless of the fact whether its stored across on-premises systems, Microsoft cloud services like Azure or Office 365, third-party services and any Windows, iOS or Android device.


Many researchers has seen this acquisition as the essential need of Microsoft Corp. because of increase in high profile security breaches every now and then a giant like Microsoft cannot afford to be on the morning news because its customers suffered a cyber security breach.

Yuval Eldar one of the founder of Secure Islands said in an interview after selling the company he established with his brother back in 2006, "Today marks an incredibly exciting milestone for our company. We have reached an agreement to be acquired by Microsoft. After the acquisition is completed, Microsoft will combine Secure Island's technology with its Azure right management services - its cloud based information protection solution. Secure Island is providing cyber security services to Microsoft for more than 3 years now. Secure Island acquisition doesn't mean that company will stop its services and support to its customers. Some major customers of Secure Island are Vodafone, UBS, OSRAM and Credit Suisse.
