The Paris Attacks Could Lead Law Enforcement to Crack Down on Encryption Apps

Responsibility for the Paris attacks were claimed by way of Telegram, a Russian-made app that encrypts messages. The service has a reported 60 million monthly active users and sends 12 billion messages a day. Our own Ed Cabrera, former Secret Service agent, comments on how this may affect law enforcement’s crack down on encryption apps. 

Anonymous Hacked and Shut down More Than 6,080 Twitter Accounts in Response to Paris Attacks

The hacktivist group Anonymous tweeted Wednesday that more than 6,080 Twitter accounts have been disabled due to their efforts in response to the Paris attacks that shocked the world this week.

The UK Government is Investing $250M in Cybersecurity Start Ups To Fight Cybercrime

Chancellor George Osborne named the tech sector as a priority area, setting out a plan to boost related government spending over the next 5 years — with the aim of bolstering domestic intelligence capabilities and defending U.K. critical infrastructure and ecommerce activity from hackers. 

Siri, Apple’s Personal Assistant, Leaks Personal Data

A potential opening for abuse in Siri-equipped iOS mobile devices allows anyone to use voice recognition to access data on a device, even with a passcode. There are several threads on Apple support forums about this ever since Siri was introduced.

Star Wars Teaches Us About Cybersecurity

The new Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, comes out in about a month. It’s not surprising given that the Empire, despite its resources and power, had some pretty glaring security gaps. In fact, 3 critical cybersecurity improvements would have made it much more difficult–if not impossible–for the Rebel Alliance to defeat it in Return of the Jedi.
