Indian Navy Chief Admiral R K Dhowan visited the BrahMos Aerospace pavilion at Defexpo 2016 which started in Goa on Monday.

Adm. Dhawan was briefed about the BRAHMOS weapon system by BrahMos Aerospace CEO & MD Shri Sudhir Mishra.

It was “a pleasure visiting BrahMos — our symbol of ‘Make In India’,” the Navy Chief remarked.

Indian Navy has deployed the land-attack and anti-ship variants of BRAHMOS supersonic cruise missile system in many of its frontline warships since 2005.

Last year, the missile was also successfully test fired from the Navy’s newly-inducted indigenous warship INS Kochi which is the second Project-15(A) Kolkata-class guided missile destroyer.

The first and lead warship of the class, INS Kolkata had successfully test fired BRAHMOS in February 2015 and June 2014.

“BRAHMOS as the prime strike weapon will ensure the warship’s invincibility by engaging naval surface targets at long ranges, thus making the destroyer another lethal platform of Indian Navy,” Sudhir Mishra, CEO & MD of BrahMos Aerospace, had then said.

The India-Russia JV company, set up in 1998, has also established a robust Missile Industrial Consortium involving a large number of industries and laboratories from both India and Russia majorly contributing in the design , development and manufcturing of BRAHMOS.

Today, BRAHMOS stands out as a perfect role model to emulate the ambitious Make In India programme.
