Canada proud of its support for Peshmerga, US recognizes Yazidi massacre as genocide

From the United Nations’ main building. Hundreds of diplomats are waiting for Canada's new Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This young leader wants Canada to have a significant role in international affairs to demonstrate that it is an important world economic power on par with Russia.

Despite his speeches about increasing his country's role in international affairs Canada's new government withdrew its warplanes from the US-led coalition fighting ISIS.

The country's Foreign Minister says that instead of fighting ISIS with airstrikes Canada will triple its support to the Kurdish Peshmerga.

Here in the United Nations Canada's authorities are, like other countries, proud of their support for the Peshmerga.

Both the US government and Congress recently declared that the mass killing of Yezidis by ISIS amounts to genocide.

This would be a significant reason for the US to wage a larger war against ISIS and send in thousands of troops.

However the United Nations hasn't declared Shingal’s mass killing was a genocidal act and says there is no international agreement on that fact.

Even those countries in coalition try not to use genocide or mass killing for ISIS’ crimes due the absence of an international consensus on this issue.

America’s decision to declare the mass killings of Yezidi Kurds and other ethnic minorities is unprecedented.

It has yet to even declare the Anfal campaign against the Iraqi Kurds, for example, as genocide.
