FBI teams to investigate Brussels bombings

NEW YORK - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is sending detective teams to Brussels following Tuesday’s deadly bombings in the Belgian capital that killed and wounded 70 people, among them several Americans.

"Because there are Americans among the casualties and US persons in the attack in Belgium, there will be an FBI investigation coming out of the New York City Joint Terrorism Task Force," John Miller, New York deputy police commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism told reporters.

The US government has stepped up security at US airports to avoid the possibility of the spillover of the Brussels bombings."We expect agents and New York City detectives, or Task Force officers, to be gearing up to leave for that investigation overseas as early as tonight or tomorrow," Miller said, according to AFP.

Three American missionaries were reported severely wounded in two deadly suicide bombings at Brussels’ Zaventem airport on Tuesday that killed some 35 people at the Zaventem airport in Brussels.

The Islamic State group (ISIS) has reportedly claimed responsibility for Tuesday's bombings at the airport and a metro station.
