MBDA Signs MoU to Supply Coastal Missile Systems to Qatar

France’s MBDA has won the largest order yet awarded by Qatar at the DIXDEX show, bagging a €640 million agreement for mobile coastal missile batteries capable of firing Marte Mk 2 and Exocet anti-ship missiles. (MBDA photo)
The supply of these coastal missile systems will allow the QENF to monitor maritime coastal traffic and prevent hostile ships from reaching and threatening their territorial waters. These coastal missile systems can deploy two different munitions, Exocet MM40 Block 3 and Marte ER (the Extended Range version of the Marte missile), reflecting the maturity and excellence of these munitions. The system can work in autonomous mode with its own radar, or alternatively by data-linking to a higher level within a wider coastal surveillance network.
Antoine Bouvier, CEO of MBDA, commented: “This MoU represents the first step towards the signing of a contract for this new and innovative coastal missile system. This is a further confirmation of the trust placed by the Qatar Armed Forces in MBDA for its defence requirements.”

At DIMDEX 2016, where the MoU was today signed, MBDA is displaying a full-size model of this coastal missile system.
With a significant presence in five European countries and within the USA, in 2015 MBDA achieved a turnover of 2.9 billion euros with an order book of 15.1 billion euros. With more than 90 armed forces customers in the world, MBDA is a world leader in missiles and missile systems. MBDA is jointly held by Airbus Group (37.5%), BAE Systems (37.5%), and Finmeccanica (25%).

Qatar Signs 10 MoUs for Arming and Developing Qatar Armed Forces

Qatar signed a memorandum of understanding to buy 'coastal batteries' defense system between Qatar Emri Naval Forces and European MBDA company with value of QR 2.64 billion.
Another MoU was signed Polish WKK for manufacturing and producing parts of drones for reconnaissance and surveillance center of the Qatar Armed Forces (QAF) as QAF bought 51 percent of WKK company which specializes in the manufacture of composite materials and fuselage production. Under the memo, WKK will provide support in the field of aircraft manufacturing and technology transfer to Qatar.
Another MoU for a project to manufacture and produce 'Q01-100' aircrafts was also signed between the steering committee of drone project and German company Reiner Stemme Utility Air-Systems GmbH with value of QR365.4 million.
Among the memos signed was one for the purchase of Exocet missile range between Qatar Emiri Naval Forces and the European MBDA company amounting to QR240 million.
A memorandum of understanding for a project to buy SearchMaster radars between the steering committee of drone project and French Thales company for QR60.896 million was also signed.
Also a memorandum of understanding for the Umrah project for boats engines between the Qatari Emiri Naval Forces and Germen MTU amounting to QR95 million was signed.
A memorandum of understanding for contracts to provide training for the pilots of helicopters and fighter jets was signed between Qatari Emiri Air Force, and the company DCI company with value of 32 million euros.
A memorandum of understanding to provide rotor contract for aircraft C-130 was signed between Qatari Emiri Air Force and the American Lockheed Martin company amounting to QR50 million.
A memorandum of understanding to provide support in the field of manufacturing and military cooperation between the steering committee of drone project and Chinese National Precision Machinery Import and Export Corporation (CASIC).
Another MoU with the same Chinese company was signed to provide the support in the field of manufacturing and military cooperation and technology transfer to the State of Qatar.
