What is UbuntuBSD ?
UbuntuBSD is an open source project, a derivative of the popular Ubuntu Linux operating system that replaces the regular Linux kernel with a BSD one from the well-known FreeBSD UNIX OS.
The distribution is suitable for both server and desktop use, features the lightweight Xfce desktop environment and all the popular open-source applications you'll need, such as the LibreOffice office suite and Mozilla Firefox web browser.
ubuntuBSD provides users a text-based installer, the powerful ZFS file system, and all the tools they need and know from the Debian and Ubuntu projects. Currently, ubuntuBSD is distributed as an installable-only ISO image for 64-bit hardware architectures.
UbuntuBSD Beta codenamed Escape From SystemD
The first beta release of UbuntuBSD is out and it has been codenamed “Escape from SystemD”. It is based on Ubuntu 15.10 and FreeBSD kernel 10.1.
It ships with Xfce desktop and is designed for both desktop and server. ZFS support is included as well. It has text based installer.
