Iranian Special Forces deploy to Syria

Iran announced on Monday that the elite 65th Airborne Brigade of the Special Forces (NOHED Brigade) has been deployed to Syria as part of a new military initiative to train and advise the Syrian Armed Forces. The 65th Airborne Brigade is considered one of the Iranian Army’s most elite military units and well-known in the country for their green berets. Currently, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) are headquartered inside Slunfeh (Latakia Governorate) and Al-Safira (Aleppo Governorate); these towns are likely the destination for the 65th Brigade. The 65th Brigade is not expected to physically participate in combat; however, they will be advising the Syrian Armed Forces from afar.
