Escape Review: Real Escape Game, Time Travel Lab

Hey! Recently, C0rg1 and I played a really interesting escape game in Japan Town of SF and wanted to highlight some of my favorite parts. The room was titled Time Travel Lab and if you like this review make sure to check it out ASAP, as it's being replaced by new games soon! A little background, the company Real Escape Games is owned by SCRAP, who also put out the Escape From AT&T Park game, so they really know their stuff when you are talking about escape games. The Time Travel Lab may have even been modeled on one of the original online escape games, Time Travel Escape. This escape room was extremely tough, and despite going at it with 10+ people, our time ran out just before solving the final puzzle. This game was also really unique in that many of the puzzles you solved didn't actually result in a key or a passcode, but rather altering something in the past and then traveling to the future, a very unique twist! This also may have been one of our downfalls, as the act of traveling through time was actually quite time consuming with 10 people, and there is surly a Time Lord laughing at the irony in all of this somewhere. The puzzles throughout the game were also great, they were creative, difficult to solve, and numerous, although often came with many hints and they could be solved without needing all of the hints. Similarly it was possible to solve the majority of minor puzzles and attempt to guess the answers for the larger major puzzles, which was a nice relief as it meant we didn't have to solve everything if we got stuck on some minor puzzle or challenge. All in all, highly challenging room, engaging scenarios, and fun puzzles! I'de recommend this for a smaller group of 6-8, where you are looking at building synergy and co-operation, as there was a ton of group based interaction and movement. Even the staff was engaging and really put you in the environment, role playing throughout the entire event. And you don't have to take my word for it, there are some excellent reviews out there. Hands down, I'de play an escape game here again!
