November Data Breach Monthly Update: We Keep Tabs On Companies That Have Been Hacked (So You Don’t Have To)

Identity theft is everywhere. According to the most recent data from Identity Theft Resource Center, there have been 629 data breaches so far in 2015, resulting in the unlawful exposure of 175,638,537 personal identities.

Let’s run through some of the recent violations, many of which have made headlines in newspapers from coast to coast, due to the lasting negative impact identity theft has on millions of hard working Americans.

Companies Breached and Individuals Harmed
Company | State | Industry | Records Exposed

  • Scottrade | IL | Financial | 4,600,000
  • Emergence Health Network | TX | Healthcare | 11,100
  • E*Trade | NY | Financial | 31,000
  • Dow Jones & Co | NY | Financial | 3,500
  • T-Mobile/Experian | WA | Telecom | 15,000,000
  • Salt Lake County | UT | Government | 14,000
  • Uber | CA | Personal Services | 1,182

No industry, government, business or person is completely safe from the ravages of identity theft. Fifteen million Americans were impacted in the T-Mobile data breach alone. That’s the size of several large American cities combined. If you happen to be a T-Mobile subscriber, or former subscriber, take a look at the company’s FAQ page for information on how the company plans to assist you.

We will return next month, with more news from the frontlines of the identity theft battle (a battle we will win by working together to increase knowledge of the multiple risks).
