Google confirms testing movie and TV show ratings with like and dislike buttons

Google has confirmed with Search Engine Land that they are currently experimenting with a method of allowing their searchers to rate movies or TV shows directly in the search results interface.

When a movie or TV show is displayed in the knowledge panel, Google may show a thumbs up (like) and thumbs down (dislike) icon. A user can then click on those icons to express their views of the movie or TV show.

A Google spokesperson told us “we’re currently experimenting with the feature but have nothing to announce at this time.” Google did not add how or if they may use this data in any way.

I spotted this back 3 weeks ago and Google just sent us this statement today.
