Blind Boy Tests How Honest People Are, The Results Are Thought-Provoking

Imagine a scenario in which a 12-year-old blind boy comes to you and politely asks for change for five dollars. The Good Samaritan in you does not want to refuse, so you dig into your bag and wallet and get those coins out. The boy hands that supposed five dollar bill to you, and you discover that the money isn’t five dollars and is instead a 50 dollar bill.

What would you do in a situation like this?

We would all like to think that we would behave in an honest way, point out to that polite but visually-challenged boy that he was handing us 50 dollars instead of five like he believed. And that’s what happened in this video, at least, in part.

The boy in question was not blind and this was actually a social experiment done by community channel Prank City, filmed by Prank Nation, to see how people would react in such a situation. In the video, as the makers explain in the beginning, the idea is to see how honest people are. The young boy, pretending to be blind, walks up to random strangers asking for change in coins for a five. However, he holds out a 50 dollars. Everyone in the video finds the change but, shockingly, half of the people walk away with the 50 dollars and hand the “blind” boy just five dollars in change proving that the world would do anything for a quick buck, including cheating a blind young boy out of his own money.

There are some honest and decent souls in the video who do point out to the boy that he is actually holding a 50 dollar bill and one Good Samaritan even offers the boy some three dollars in change without taking anything, saying that he doesn’t need it.

Perhaps we should all watch and share this video to spread the message around that there are good people in the world, but there is also a lot of work that needs to be done to achieve the good and honest world we all want to live in.
