3 Tips to Get Your Audience Attention During Your Presentation

A good presentation will determine the success of any business plan, the first thing that comes to mind before any presentation is “How can I sustain the audience’s attention during my presentation?”

Some audience will only decide to give the speaker a fair chance by listening closely for the first few minutes of his/her presentation. As the presentation continues you notice the attention of the audience weakened. With a lot of distractions, some will be writing something else, and some looking out the window while the presentation is on. Noticing all this distraction is frustrating to the presenter.

The good news is, this article will address this problem if applied wisely.

1. You should never maintain a particular position.

It is in human nature for our attention not to be focused on particular activities for too long, but this is possible with any moving object. Whenever you are presenting a speech or a powerpoint template, It is advisable to keep moving from one place to another either from the table, podium or wherever you have your materials. Initially, you may feel out of place, but what you only need is the courage to present your speech, as you proceed with the presentation you feel more relaxed. With the attention of your listener focused on you as you move from one point to another.

2. Make your presentation an interactive one.

In the past, most listeners will just sit for a particular period of time while a speaker presents his/her speech during an event. But in our present world, the best form to get your listener interested in your presentation is when the audience involved. It’s hard to get bored if you form part of the action use the name of the listener by involving them in active activities that foster interaction. When referring to known people or places, attention increases. This is applicable to small audiences. You could decide to ask each of your audience to share their various experiences, and to identify the various areas they feel is important to the subject being discussed and to also make meaningful contributions.  You can also choose to make the presentation more interesting by engaging your audience with various exercises at interval to bring forth a more promising output during your presentation; this could also be achieved by appointing a leader on each row or tables according to the seating arrangement of your audience to give you feedback on each task being assigned to them.

3. Tell an interesting story when presenting.

It is appealing when a story or presentation comes out interesting and captivating during your presentation. People or the audience doesn’t become enticed at the first stage of a presentation, but at the second stage, they get more enthralled when an interesting story is presented to the audience. It is important to have an interesting story which can captivate the audience. It could be a business strategy, financial gain or a new research work, but as the case may be, it is advisable to make your presentation interesting. For example, you can start the presentation without getting any attention from the audience, but once you start bringing out important facts and new ideas or, as the case may be the audience start concentrating on what you are saying at that point you can know when you have the audience attention or not

Applying this few tips mentioned above will not only make your presentation, lively and interesting but will enable you to get the complete attention of your audience during the entire presentation, and this could be the beginning of great things to come as a presenter.
