Time to get on-board to celebrate Fordham IP Conference's
25th Anniversary
The IPKat has been a long supporter and contributor to the phenomenal Fordham IP Conference, with many of our team speaking at or reporting from midtown Manhattan on the year's IP events.  This year is no exception with two Kats - the AmeriKat and Kat Eleonora - participating in this year's 25th anniversary celebration on 20-21 April 2017.

Led by the energetic, discerning and probing Professor Hugh Hansen, this year's program menu is a feast of IP intrigue with large helpings of fiery debate.  Topics include:

  • 25 Years of IP:  Where has it been?  Where is it going?
  • Views from the Judiciary
  • Brexit and IP (you know it...)
  • Trade secrets
  • Doctrine of equivalents
  • Communication to the public and hyperlinking
  • International trade, populism and IP
  • 25 Years of Competition:  Where has it been?  Where is it going?
  • Text and Data mining
  • FRAND/SEPs
  • NPEs
  • 25 Years of Copyright:  Where has it been?  Where is it going?
  • Protection of designs

What is so good about the conference?  Like any good advocate, the conference focuses on the important points - 20 minute lullabyes about what section 101 of Whatever Act means are not allowed (thank you!).  The conference is all about what is important in IP law and policy.  What are we getting right?  What are we getting wrong?  And, so what?  Within this framework, prominent speakers are put to task of justifying their views from Professor Hansen and the audience.

This year's conference faculty are a veritable who's who of IP law and practice including a gaggle of judges, government officials and industry including:

Last year the AmeriKat was alone in live reporting Fordham (see reports here).  Typing away through breaks, lunches and clasping her throbbing paws, the AmeriKat was only fuelled by the riveting IP debate and sandwiches hand-delivered to her by wonderful Kat friend Richard Vary (Bird & Bird).  However, she missed reporting on exciting panel sessions on competition, trade marks and copyright.  Thankfully, this year she has backup in the form of  guest contributor Laura Whiting, so this year the IPKat will be live (or near live) reporting on even more of the sessions for those readers who are unable to attend.   But, come on....you don't want to miss out this year, do you?
