The History of Things: the Shopping Cart Recently Turned 80 Years Old! | #ManufacturingMonday

CBS News recently celebrated a story from their 1977 archives, about a 1937 invention by Sylvan Goldman: the shopping cart! Invented in a carpentry shop, it lead to the formation of numerous manufacturing companies – not to mention toddler rides we’re all fond of remembering! And from Oklahoma City of all places – I never knew!

Charles Kuralt went “On the Road” to Oklahoma City, where he met Sylvan Goldman, famed for having invented the ubiquitous grocery store shopping cart in 1937. Originally broadcast on CBS News’ “Who’s Who” on January 11, 1977.
