A Functioning Overwatch MEKA with Lights, Sounds, and Smoke
Mike C., a.k.a. Retroresource, fully committed to building his daughter an Overwatch D.Va costume. He decided to make her an almost full-sized, completely motorized MEKA. The pink suit came together with an old electric wheelchair base to help with the movement. To get an idea of the complexity of the suit, a single leg has 25 pieces.
They’re nearing completion of the MEKA, and you can see how far along they are in the above video. In addition to being motorized for walking, the arm cannons fire with sound effects sampled directly from the video game and changing LEDs. The thrusters even have smoke. Mike had to solve a little issue to get the fog output exactly as he wanted it:
The smoke for the thrusters almost didn’t happen. Turns out the little fog machine i parted didn’t provide enough pressure to force the smoke through the tubes. Thought I’d wasted and entire day working on that but at the last minute I fixed it by mounting an air mattress inflator pump to increase the pressure and it worked awesome!
