Living Light Harnesses Plant Energy

How would you take care of your lamp if it was actually alive? A Dutch product designer has come up with “Living Light” which is a light that takes advantage of energy that soil bacteria generates during a plants photosynthesis process. While the energy is limited it is still possible for a healthy plant to produce up to .1mW.

Within my fascination for Biodesign, I discovered ‘microbial energy’: energy generated by bacteria and harvested by microbial fuel cells. For my graduation project, I collaborate with Plant-e, a research group that is focussed on applying and developing the microbial fuel cell technology to plants.
