DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest PDF-XChange Editor release—both the 32 and 64 bit .msi installers.
3. Put them in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installers by following this guide.
4. Browse the extracted 64 bit installers into C:\0TEST\EditorV8.x64\Tracker Software folder, move PDF Editor folder to C:\0TEST\PDFXEditPortable\App folder and rename it to PDFXEdit.
5. Browse into App\PDFXEdit folder then rename PDFXEdit.exe to PDFXEdit64.exe,
   
6. Browse to the extracted 32 bit installer C:\0TEST\EditorV8.x86\Tracker Software\PDF Editor folder, move PDFXEdit.exe to App\PDFXEdit folder.
7. Delete these
   • folders: Help, Stamps
   • files: iePDFXEditPlugin.x86.dll, npPDFXEditPlugin.x86.dll, iePDFXEditPlugin.x64.dll, npPDFXEditPlugin.x64.dll
   
   
8. Look up the version from PDFXEdit.exe's Properties dialog box,
   
9. Browse to PDFXEditPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 8.0.331.0 not just 8.0.331,

    DisplayVersion=8.0.331.0 (32/64 bit)
   

10. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\PDFXEditPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
    
11. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
12. When all is OK, then delete the PDFXEditPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\PDFXEditPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
    
13. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
14. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Quick and Dirty Update

1. Make sure you exit PDF-XChange Editor portable cleanly—check that no PortableApps.comLauncherRuntimeData-PDFXEditPortable.ini file in the Data folder.
2. Delete your current App\PDFXEdit folder.
3. Follow step 2-7 of the "DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release" above.
4. Done.

Portability Notes

PDF-XChange Editor is 100% portable.

7.0.323.1: User manual (pdf, ±50MB) removed, since there's no new update.
