This Overwatch Mercy Costume Came Together in a Month

The release of Overwatch has brought a number of new costumes to conventions, and Mercy is perhaps the most popular. I’m always interested in seeing how cosplayers tackle the character’s recognizable wings. Redditor LavastormSW made her Mercy costume for CONvergence and managed to create it over the course of a month. However, she spent hours and hours devoting time to the build in that month, including working 12+ hour days on the costume in the final two weeks. Her efforts got her an award for the best re-creation in the convention’s masquerade.

But the wings! LavastormSW milled the wings from pink foam and strengthened them with hardboard core and coated them with epoxy to seal them before painting. She realized some kinds of epoxy break down foam, so it’s important to test any sort of sealant on a piece of scrap foam first. You can view a couple of in progress shots below.
