YouTube Channel Views Counter – Made with HUZZAH ESP8266 Breakout, MAX7219 8-Digit Display

Very cool – possibly counterfeit – MAX7219 module and all-around project from Kenneth Finnegan that displays a YouTube channel’s total views number.

Would love to see a project with those modules daisy-chained together for realllllly large numbers, and can also imagine them being used for some countdown applications.

I’ve wanted an Internet connected read-out for some time now, inspired by the awesome shadow box IoT projects Becky Stern has been doing (weather, YouTube subscribers). I’m certainly not to the same level of packaging as her yet, but I’ve got a functional display working with a Hazzah and an eBay seven segment display module.
