How to Make Wipprecht’s High Tech Edelweiss Necklace #WearableWednesday #wearabletech #DIY #3Dprinting

High Tech Edelweiss Necklace

There are some exciting wearable designers making their work open source these days, including genius Anouk Wipprecht. I just discovered her latest Instructable for a High Tech Edelweiss necklace. Like the song made popular in The Sound of Music, her necklace carries the Leontopodium alpinum in 3d printed form. Underneath the opaque topper is a PCB with an ATTiny, LEDs and a light sensor. Anouk provides files for 3d printing, as well as the PCB. However, you also have the option to order the needed parts from the partners on this project—Aisler and Shapeways.

The necklace is meant to illuminate the darkness since it has a light sensor, but wait, there’s more according to the designer.

This High-Tech Edelweiss functions as an DIY kit for promotion of electronics + coding to a broad audience of kids +makers – anyone that wants to learn electronics or tinker-with in a playful way!

You’ll need an Arduino Uno for programming the tiny microcontroller and just a few tools. If you end up making one, Anouk is asking for people to share the love on social media with #HighTechEdelweiss and #AnoukWipprecht. This is a sweet project and it does a good job at introducing the basics of electronics. Let us know if you make one and tell us how you are wearing it. Thanks to Anouk and Werkstatte Wattens/Fablab Swarovski_IIR for the inspiration—the world can definitely use the light and symbolism of Edelweiss right now!
