DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest B1 Free Archiver release:
   1. Get the latest version number from Majorgeeks, for example 2.6.39.0,
   2. Replace the "####" in this URL with that version number,

      https://b1.org/download-start/0/os=windows&standalone=true/B1FreeArchiver_####.exe
      

      so it becomes,

      https://b1.org/download-start/0/os=windows&standalone=true/B1FreeArchiver_2.6.39.0.exe
      

   3. Copy and paste that URL to a browser and download the B1 Free Archiver offline installer. Do not use download manager/accelerator, it won't work; use plain browser download.
3. Put it in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installer with 7-Zip to B1FreeArchiverPortable\App\B1FreeArchiver folder,
   
   Ignore the "checksum error" message,
   
4. Browse to B1FreeArchiverPortable\App\B1FreeArchiver, delete:
   1. B1Shellext32.dll,
   2. B1Shellext64.dll,
   3. vcredist_x86.exe,
   4. WinSetup32.exe,
   5. WinSetup64.exe,
5. Browse to B1FreeArchiverPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 1.7.20.0 not just 1.7.20,

    [Version]
    PackageVersion=1.7.20.0
    DisplayVersion=1.7.20
   

6. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\B1FreeArchiverPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
   
7. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
8. When all is OK, then delete the B1FreeArchiverPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\B1FreeArchiverPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
   
9. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
10. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Portability Notes

• B1 Free Archiver do not have portable mode. It stores its settings in Windows registry while running.
• Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
• You can help by sending request to the official developer to add "portable mode" to their future release.

Release History

• 1.7.120.0 Even though Softpedia.com listed it as 1.7.122 and even Majorgeeks as 2.6.39.0, the internal version is still 1.7.120.
