A Chappie Costume from Cardboard to Completion

Nathan, a.k.a. Wartoast Cosplay calls himself an intermediate cosplay and prop creator, but based on his recently completed Chappie costume, I’d put him at a higher level. He replicated the police droid Chappie from the film of the same name and used both sophisticated and low-tech materials in the build. On the low tech side, he patterned various armor pieces like the chest plate from cardboard before transferring the pieces to EVA floor mats and then sealing, painting, and weathering them. On the flip side, Nathan used LEDs and an Arduino from Adafruit to add glowing elements to the costume. You can see both that and the cardboard stage of the build in the photos below.
