Book Review: "Daemon"

Daemon by Daniel Suarez was another awesome, tech and hacker based, science fiction thriller. This was Daniel's debut novel, previously he had been a tech consultant and amazingly Suarez self published this book. Daemon is a high tech mystery novel set throughout a recent 20th century, focused on a very powerful entrepreneur and his runaway computer virus. The book involves hackers, intelligence agencies, mules, robots, and seemingly sentient computer programs, all vying in an epic power struggle. I listened to the book on audible at a single credit for ~16hrs, but the hardcover can be purchased for only the shipping and handling. I'm not going to rate this book either, as I don't read a lot of fiction, but I do recommend it to other hackers looking for a good techno-thriller read, with lots of technical details, science fiction, and cool hacks. I listened the book after it was recommended to me on my Ready Player One review, so if the readers here have any more good books please comment! Daemon felt like a more grown-up version of Ready Player One, with more adult content, deeper hacking narrative, and more "real world" consequence (oh, and killer robots). The main enemy of the story is a virus or daemon that has been elaborately programmed to kill people. Its a dark book that both elevates and destroys many of the motley main characters. The book also includes a lot of video game play and the daemon uses popular video games to recruit talented players with lots of time and skill on their hands. You can find Dan on twitter, and the Daemon book also has it's own companion site. Daemon is the first in a series of these books, and Dan has recently written several new books on similar science fiction topics. Daniel Suarez also did a cool AMA and gave a neat talk at Google which you can watch below:
