How to Make Voice Calls on Signal on Android
This wikiHow teaches you how to make voice calls using the Signal Private Messenger app on Android. Signal is a free open source encrypted communication app that maintains your privacy. If the person you are calling also uses Signal, the call will be secured with end-to-end encryption that doesn't go through a central server. If the person isn't a Signal user, a standard call will be placed using your phone's default calling app.
Edit10 Second Summary
1. Open Signal.
2. Tap the blue pencil icon.
3. Tap a contact or enter a number.
4. Tap phone icon.
5. Wait for the call to connect.
EditSteps
- Open Signal. It's the blue app with a white speech bubble in the middle.
- If you don't have Signal installed on your phone, you can it from the Google Play Store.
- Tap . It's the blue pencil button in the lower-right corner. This starts a new conversation.
- Enter a name or number. Tap the bar at the top that says "Enter name or number" and write a person's name or phone number.
- You can also scroll through your list of contacts below and tap the person you want to call.
- Tap the call button to place the call. It's the phone icon in the top-right of the screen. There are two different icons you might see here that will determine the kind of call Signal will make:
- - A normal, unprotected call will be placed because the person you're calling doesn't have Signal.
- - A secure, end-to-end encrypted call will be placed because the person you're calling has Signal.
- Wait for the call to connect. If you're making a secure Signal call, it can take a little longer to connect than a normal call because Signal's encrypted calls are sent peer-to-peer and don't go through a central server.
- If you're making a normal unprotected call you may have to press the call button in your phone's calling app to start the call.
