Upgrade and License Key

DIY/Do It Yourself: Upgrade to the Latest Release

Requirements 7-Zip, NPP/Notepad++ or other text editor, PortableApps.com Launcher Generator/PAL, PortableApps.com Installer/PAI.

1. Get the latest portable app. template, and extract the content with 7-Zip.
2. Get the latest IObit Driver Booster release.
3. Put it in the same folder as the extracted template, in our example C:\0TEST, then extract the installer by following this guide.
4. Open the install_script.iss and find AppVer=,
   use the value to rename {cm_AppVer} folder in driver_booster_setup\{app} folder,
   
5. Browse to driver_booster_setup\{app}\5.2.0 folder, delete:
   1. files: AUpdate.exe, AutoUpdate.exe, Dashlane_Launcher.exe, IObitDownloader.exe, Promote.exe, SetupHlp.exe, UpdateTips.exe,
   2. folder: Update.
   
   
6. Move driver_booster_setup\embedded\License.rtf to {app}\5.2.0 folder.
7. Move driver_booster_setup\{app} folder contents to DriverBoosterProPortable\App\DriverBoosterPro folder,
   
8. Open App\DriverBoosterPro\5.2.0\EULA.rtf and copy its content to update the App\AppInfo\eula.txt—overwrite existing content.
9. Copy the 3-digit version—in our example 5.2.0—and replace the old 3-digit version in these files:
   1. DriverBoosterProPortable\help.html,
   2. App\AppInfo\Launcher\DriverBoosterProPortable.ini, and
   3. App\AppInfo\Launcher\Custom.nsh.
10. Look up version from the App\DriverBoosterPro\5.2.0\DriverBooster.exe Properties window,
    
11. Browse to DriverBoosterProPortable\App\AppInfo and open appinfo.ini file with NPP. Replace the [Version] section with the latest version number. Make sure the PackageVersion entry is in 4 place digit, eg. 5.2.0.686 not just 5.2.0 nor 5.2,

      DisplayVersion=5.2.0.686
    

12. Run PAL, paste the template folder address C:\0TEST\DriverBoosterProPortable, and click Go—a new launcher will be created,
    
13. Test the new launchers by following this guide.
14. When all is OK, then delete the DriverBoosterProPortable\Data folder and run PAI, paste the package folder address C:\0TEST\DriverBoosterProPortable, and click Go—to create the installer package.
    
15. Use the installer package to upgrade your portable application. Don't forget to at least backup your Data folder before any upgrade :)
16. If you find any changes that's not handled by the launcher, consult the PAL help file to modify the launcher yourself or ask for our paid upgrade support.

Portability Notes

• Driver Booster do not have portable mode. It writes to Windows registry and stores its settings in Windows data folders while running.
• Make sure it exits cleanly before plugging out your thumbdrive.
• You can help by sending request to the official developer to add "portable mode" to their future release.
