Latex is a truly remarkable material – it having very diverse and flexible properties. It’s all the more incredible when you realize it is sourced from a tree, hevea brasiliensis – and therefore originates from the genetic information encased inside a simple seed, pictured above. The video below demonstrates how this raw, natural material is harvested and turned into something as novel as an inflatable balloon. It also answers one of the great head-scratchers I’ve always had, which is how exactly is the lip of the balloon fabricated – shown in this here moment:
