Turning a Neon Green Mug into a Usable Prop

When you’re at a thrift store or a craft shop, don’t pass by any item simply because it’s not the right color. If you see something you could use as a costume prop, pick it up and modify it. Replica Props Forum member Adam Majors recently shared what a difference a repaint can make with his mug transformation. The above photo shows the neon green mugs as they were in a bin at 5 Below, while the below image shows the finished product. Majors made it look like a wooden mug any Viking or pirate or renaissance faire character would be proud to carry.

He says he applied a mix of new paint after applying an acetone wash first:

6 colors. Mostly just generic paints, water based. I did add a clear flat sealer at the end tho.
Black, Brown Oxide, Old Oiled Leather. Black, Silver, Silver + Black. Antique Gold.
