Queen Elinor Costume from Brave Includes Real Beetle Wings

When Corvidae Cosplay made her Queen Elinor costume from the Pixar film Brave, she decided to go with a historically accurate design. She based the look for the queen on an 1889 painting of Lady Macbeth by John Singer Sargent, “Ellen Terry as Lady Macbeth” (photo below via the Tate). The dress that inspired the painting also influenced Queen Elinor’s gown in the film; in real life, it’s covered with beetle wings (which Corvidae included), and in the movie, the wings are represented by shimmering flecks on Elinor’s dress. Corvidae’s cosplay is a beautiful nod to both pieces of art.
