CNC Pro Tip: Avoid Vacuum Bleed with Weekly Sacrificial Bed Skimming | #ManufacturingMonday
Another good, straightforward and simple tip from Canadian CNC machine manufacturer AXYZ, all about sacrificial bed skimming. In the video below they show how 25mm MDF is used for the sacrificial bed, with the tip being to skim the bed of 0.2mm on a weekly basis, giving you week and months on end without having to worry about the sacrificial bed while minimizing vacuum bleed. (And only requiring a minimal amount of sacrificial bed material – in other words using a bit of material to save you in the long run.)
As you continue to use your sacrificial bed, the core of the MDF can become ‘furry’ making it difficult to hold smaller parts at the end of the cutting process.
At AXYZ we recommend skimming your MDF bed by 0.2mm on a weekly basis, if you proceed with this method your MDF bed will need replacing after six months. However, this is largely dependent on the type of work you’re completing.
