How to Make a Foam Wig

Whether you’re cosplaying an anime character or a character from a cel-shaded game, odds are strong you’re going to have to deal with some hair that isn’t a natural color and/or shape. Though you can style faux hair around forms to mimic extreme spikes and swoops, you could skip the traditional wig options and use craft foam. Tumblr user Schmemy Cosplay, a.k.a. Emily, turned to foam when she wasn’t thrilled with the hair-based wig she made for her Borderlands costume.

She couldn’t find a how to, so she wrote her own process for making the foam wig. It started with making a form of her head with cling wrap and masking tape and then transferring it to the foam (you can see the finished foam wig cap below):

Now you can use your pattern and cut this weird shape out of your craft foam! Glue the seams back together with hot glue and try it on. You may have to adjust it some more

She then put the cap on a wig form/mannequin head and started gluing on pieces of “hair” cut from the craft foam.
