The Classic PBS Series Taught Kids How to Think About Thinking

“The following is from a cooperative project for acquiring the skills essential to learning.”

That intro give me more chills than any Saturday Morning Cartoon. When I was a kid, the only TV I was allowed to watch was PBS. So I saw a lot. Electric Company, Mr. Rogers, Sesame Street, Book Bird.

But the ones that I really remember are the short educational video series. These videos were designed to be shown in the classroom or, in my case, to homeschooled kids. They all asked the viewer to think through problems, engage their imagination, or take a stand on some issue. They had titles like Inside Out, Self Incorporated, and the one introduced above, Thinkabout.

There’s a subset of PBS programming that took the shape ofshort educational vidos designed to be show in the classroom or, in my case, during my six years of homeschooling.

Thinkabout had 15-minute episodes with titles like Thinkabout: Meaning is More Than Words, Thinkabout: Cultural Patterns, Thinkabout: Checking Conclusions.

Or Thinkabout: People Patterns about deconstructing people’s repetitive behaviors (or “loops,” for you Delos customers), that still affects how I look at the world today.
